Outstanding Education

Curriculum

Curriculum

Our school has followed the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (PYP) since 2012, which is a student-centred approach to education, with children developing knowledge, skills, and conceptual understandings. Our school supports our early learners using a play-based approach to inquiry, and we support the values of the Learner Profile in all that we do.

Languages

Our school offers an English-medium early years education designed to support the development of early communication skills. Our approach is language-rich, helping our learners to use language to ask questions, deepen understanding and build relationships. In addition to our English medium for instruction, children are also introduced to Mandarin Chinese, which is 2.5 hours per week of adult-supported language development.

We acknowledge and celebrate the different mother-tongue languages in our community and the role they play in supporting identity, belonging, and connection.

Teaching and Learning

Through inquiry-based learning and play, we encourage children’s natural curiosity and creativity, develop their personal and social skills, and plant the seed of a life-long love of learning. Children are encouraged to take ownership of their own learning, which builds confidence and independence.

We believe the early years are a critical stage in a child’s development and education. Everything we do is intended to provide the best outcomes for our young learners and to provide them with a fun and stimulating place to learn. Our supportive and enriching environment supports all children's abilities and talents.

We offer an English language education for children aged 3 to 5. The learning environment is rich and engaging, and children are encouraged to learn through exciting and fun hands-on experiences. We also access our local community in different ways to support learning.

We have a PYP coordinator who leads the development of our curriculum and the detailed planning behind each learning experience. All classes are led by qualified early years teachers and are supported by educational assistants, many of whom have recognised certificates in early childhood education.

We pride ourselves on the standards we set for teaching and learning, and our people make all the difference.

Mandarin Chinese language skills are delivered by native-level speakers with Chinese teaching qualifications.
